Samford Valley’s Ingrid Drynan, with her children Michael and Zoe, is a finalist in the Australia’s Favourite Soccer Mum competition.

When it comes to supporting her favourite soccer teams, there’s no questioning the fanaticism of Ingrid Drynan.

Even battling bouts of morning sickness while pregnant wasn’t enough to keep the Samford Valley resident from traveling to see the Australian team qualify for its first World Cup finals in more than three decades.

“When I was pregnant with our daughter Nicole (four years ago) and suffering morning sickness, we drove 12 hours to Sydney to watch the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay,” Ingrid said.

“It wasn’t the best drive but it was worth it, as we won.

“She (Nicole) was due and born the day Australia was playing their first game of the World Cup against Japan in Germany, and she was good and was born just a few hours before so we got to see the game.”

Ingrid, a mother of three, is one of six finalists in The Coffee Club’s Australia’s Favourite Soccer Mum competition, which is shooting to find parents who share their children’s passion for soccer.

Playing since she was 15, Ingrid said, “I like all sports, but my family and my husband’s family have always been soccer people.

“I’ve got a passion for it and it’s been handed down to my kids because they play, and we’ve even got a soccer field in our backyard with mown lines and goal nets and centre circles and corner flags.

“We’re basically just soccer fanatics.”

When she’s not wearing an orange jersey in support of local A-League outfit Brisbane Roar, Ingrid is a regular presence at her local club the Samford Rangers, where husband John and their two oldest children Michael, 10, and Zoe, 8, also play.

Ingrid, who has either coached or managed one of her children’s soccer teams each year, said three-year-old Nicole was set to pull on the boots to play club football for the first time next year.

The Australia’s Favourite Soccer Mum winner will score over $50,000 worth of prizes, including a seven-seat Santa Fe all-wheel drive vehicle, tickets to every Brisbane Roar home game, a trip to see an away match and dinner with Roar players and their mums.

The winner will be decided by public vote, with entrants to go in the draw to win a Kitchen Connection kitchen valued at $20,000. Voting closes on 6 December with the winner to be announced the following week.
