Name: Debby and Gavin Kirkwood, pictured

Business: Dayboro Party Hire

Established: 2009

Based at: Dayboro

What services does your business offer? Hiring equipment for parties, weddings, functions, events and alike, as well as offering a range of disposable party products, balloons, helium DIY kits and cake tin hire.

What areas do your clients come from?  Dayboro Valley and surrounds, Kurwongbah, Mango Hill, Joyner, Mt Mee.

What was your company’s first job? Dayboro Cowboys seniors presentation dinner.

How did you make your first dollar? Gavin – mowing lawns; Debby - delivering newspapers.

How did you get into your current line of work?  We’ve lived in Dayboro for over 12 years and hired equipment for parties.  We found it a hassle to borrow a ute or trailer to drive to and from Kallangur or Samford, or pay lots of dollars in delivery fees.  We put the idea of party hire to people we knew in Dayboro and received lots of encouragement and support.  Then while toying with the idea of going ahead with it (or not) a friend closed the doors on her restaurant at Montville and offered us catering and cooking equipment at an excellent price.

Why is a business like yours so important? Because it offers the Dayboro area a service that it didn’t already have – a service that is handy, convenient and price competitive.

What sort of clients does your business provide services to? Anyone wanting party gear or party decorations, balloons etc.

Before your current job, what were your previous occupations?  We are both still heavily involved in communications construction rigging.

What do your customers most appreciate about your services?  Free delivery in the immediate Dayboro area, open for business across the weekend, flexibility.

What is the best part of your job? Meeting lots of new people (particularly in Dayboro).

How do you spend your spare time?  With our kids.
