A team of local cyclists is set to strap on a helmet to tackle cancer head on in August.

Amanda Proctor (Warner), Angela Price (Bald Hills), Jeff Proctor (Eatons Hill) and Ruth and Sian Skinner-Smith (Lawnton) are hitting the road for this year’s Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer charity ride.

Amanda was inspired to take part in the ride, which raises money for the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, because her grandmother died from cancer and her father Jeff had melanoma.

“Ruth’s first husband also died from cancer quite a while ago,” Amanda said.

“You’d be hard pressed to find somebody who doesn’t have a story like that.

“It’s important for us to do it (the ride) not only for ourselves but for everyone.”
