Jade Demnar went to China after winning a Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship.
Local women studying for a career in business can get a leg-up thanks to the Zonta Club of Pine Rivers.
The women’s support organisation is seeking nominations for the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships, which encourage women to enter careers in business-related fields.
The scholarships are open to women enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through to the final year of a master’s program in business.
Two years ago Jade Demnar received a scholarship worth $1500 after winning at both the local and regional level, for the Zonta district covering Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Currently in her final year of study for a degree in Arts, Business and Chinese at the University of Queensland, Ms Demnar was 20 when she won the scholarship.
“The scholarship was definitely a monetary aid and it also helped in terms of opening up other opportunities,” she said.
“I wanted to go to a student exchange for six months and last year I went to Peking University in Beijing, China.
“It’s such a highly sought after exchange and so competitive as only two UQ students get to go there each semester.”
Ms Demnar, who hopes to carve out a career in international relations, foreign affairs and “cross-cultural mediation” after completing her studies, has also been a guest speaker at Zonta gatherings around Brisbane and in Mackay.
“It’s been great being able to interact withdifferent females and it’s helped with meeting new people and opens up networking opportunities,” she said.
Zonta Club of Pine Rivers is offering a scholarship of $750 for one local recipient, who could then win $1000 and $5000 for winning at district and international level.
Applications close 11 May. For more details email Barb Clyde at the Zonta Club of Pine Rivers on email@example.com
