Name: Glenda Wilks
Business: Glenda Wilks Homeopathy
Established: 2000
Based at: Samford
What services does your business offer? My business offers personalised health care consultations based on homeopathic principles. It is offered to any age group, including pregnant mothers, children and the elderly. I also offer advice on healthy living practices and nutrition. I am a registered practitioner and as such, health care rebates are available.
What areas do your clients come from? The majority of clients live in Samford and surrounding areas. I have found, however, that when clients move, even if it’s overseas, they still contact me for treatment.
What was your company’s first job? It was to bring restorative health to a young boy who had suffered repeated infections with complications every winter.
How did you make your first dollar? Coming from a dairy farm I was given a calf to raise and when sold, I was allowed to keep the funds.
How did you get into your current line of work? After many years of treating my own family with homeopathic first aid and seeing the amazing results, I went on to study homeopathy and obtained a Bachelor of Health Science in Homeopathy.
Why is a business like yours so important? It offers people a different health care approach which can either complement their existing treatment, or as an alternative approach. It is a valuable modality in helping people gain insight into their own health issues and how to resolve them.
What sort of clients does your business provide services to? It’s interesting that many people from other countries seem more open to homeopathy, since it is more mainstream where they come from. However, this health care approach is one where everyone can benefit. Anyone aspiring to be the best they can be in terms of their mental, emotional and physical health, are the sort of clients who would find homeopathy attractive.
What is the most unique job your business has done? Homeopathy treats everyone as an individual and as such, every consultation is definitely unique, with treatment being tailored specifically to that person.
What do your customers most appreciate about your services? Personalised service, where they feel genuinely listened to, with a striving to understand the cause of their issues. Supportive, non-judgemental and confidential environment, where they feel free to express themselves. Most importantly, they get results.
What is the best part of your job? The reward of empowering people to have a level of control over their own health. Hearing a person say after treatment, “I am more focused and happy with my life.” It is extremely rewarding to see how well people respond to this wonderful health care approach. Receiving letters of thanks or just hearing someone say how much better they feel, makes the job so worthwhile.
What advice would you give to anyone considering working in your line of work? I would encourage anyone who is attracted to the healing modalities. There is much study involved but it is very worthwhile. I think I would stress the importance of studying at a reputable college, and making sure they are registered and complying with the high standards necessary to enable this modality to take the rightful place it deserves.
If you didn’t work in your current job, what job would you like to do? I am very happy with my current job but I guess I can dream about being a travel photographer.
How do you spend your spare time? With family and friends, travelling, gardening and taking photos to name a few interests. I am a committee member with the Australian Homeopathic Association with an upcoming major Australian seminar, so there is always lots to do.
