The Westerner

On the Job: Dayboro Pumps

Thursday, 12 July 2012

Name: Jason Andrews

Business: Dayboro Pumps

Established: 2011

Based at: Dayboro

What services does your business offer?  Servicing, repairs and installation of new pumps, and sales of water tank pumps and sullage/pump-out pumps.

What areas do your clients come from?  Dayboro, Samford, Ocean View, Mt Pleasant, Laceys Creek.

What was your company’s first job?  Replacing a grey water pump at Mt Pleasant.

How did you make your first dollar?  Washing cars on weekends and school holidays.

How did you get into your current line of work?  As I have run a swimming pool business for the last seven years I have a great background in pumps, and how to install them, as well as fault finding, so I would like to offer my clients someone who can take care of many different things for them.

Why is a business like yours so important?  As there is no one local any more to offer this service, people have had to travel out of town to get their pumps fixed, or wait a few days for someone to come out to them. Now I can be there usually the same day to get their water back on for them, as I carry spare pumps until theirs is fixed.

What sort of clients does your business provide services to?  All types of people, as a lot of people are on tank water out here, and have grey water tank systems.

Before your current job, what were your previous occupations?  I am also a qualified carpenter, which I still do as well, and I also worked with Optus as a radio frequency technician for six years.

What do your customers most appreciate about your services?  The fact that they can have a shower that night would be a big one!

What is the best part of your job?  Meeting different people most days, the variety of jobs I go to, and working in a really great part of the world.

What advice would you give to anyone considering working in your line of work?  Be honest with your clients, and do the job to the best of your ability every time.

If you didn’t work in your current job, what job would you like to do?  I love running, so it would be great to get paid to run marathons in different countries.
